Your breastfeeding story

What you have heard about breastfeeding over the past years, most probably determines how you look at breastfeeding today. How can you change those stories and create your own , successful, breastfeeding story and reach your goals?

What you have heard about breastfeeding over the past years, determines how you look at breastfeeding today.

Not only she stories we have heard from our friends or what we have seen in their journey, but especially how we got raised are important influences.

This goes generations back.

How was your mom raised, your grandma? How did your greatgrandma experience breastfeeding? Was it easy or a struggle? She told her daughter about it and this conditioned her onto her approach of breastfeeding.

Have a look at how you think about breastfeeding and think back about the stories your mom told you. Are that the stories you want to believe? Was it hard for her? What is her opinion about breastfeeding? Even ask your grandma if she is still around. Or otherwise ask an aunt about her stories and memories.

We identify ourselves by the stories we heard. Often we don’t even remember the phrases that were used but we made them our truth. To give you a simple, daily, example: “Money doesn’t grow on trees” Which insinuates that money is hard to come by… does it sound familiar?

Likewise in breastfeeding. When you have heard that “it’s okay to breastfeed but you also have to think about yourself” Insinuates that breastfeeding always takes its toll on you and that it “damages” you. Maybe your mom experienced many challenges and difficulties and was happy to always tell you what a struggle it has been for her.

You create your reality

As women we often identify ourselves with our moms and we compare ourselves to them. So when your mom has been struggling you (sub) consciously program yourself for the same experience.

So write down everything you believe about breastfeeding. Whether to be hard or easy. And have a look if this is the story that you want to keep telling yourself.

Then rewrite your story into what YOU want to believe instead. While writing, keep this in mind: “If everything is possible and there are no limits, how do I want it to be”

I am curious to find out what is gonna roll out of your pen. Keep rereading your story daily to create  your own truth. You decide what you want to believe,  you create your own reality. You get the chance to break through patterns that have been kept over generations. Change your story and change that of the generations that will come after you.

Change your story, change your experience & be able to look back on a successful breastfeeding journey!
